Yeah I don't have a lot of Dean/Cas haaha YOU KNOW YOU LOVE ME

Here's everything in my folder. I don't remember if you've read any of these and I don't know if they are your particular taste BUT HERE WE GO:

The Importance of Souls | by cloudy_fic | ♥ Dean/Cas | ♡ Really good Sam | PG-13 | 6,000
A His Dark Materials AU :D Really, really cute. There are more parts after this one, which I can't remember if I read, but I loved this first part.

Spilt Milk | by sparky77 | ♥ Dean/Castiel | ♡ Sam POV! | PG | 4,000
A bit cracky, but very cute. And omg Sam.

All This Will Happen Again | by libraryofsol | ♥ Castiel/Balthazar/Dean | ♡ no Sam | PG-13 | 1,650
Lovely jealousy, interesting angely stuff. I like how this is what pushes them to take that step.

Containing Multitudes | by triedunture | ♥ Dean/Cas (preslash) | ♡ Some Sam | PG | 8,700
A really cool reinterpretation of how the purgatory situation could have worked out. I really love the elements they decide to use here. (And there is a very lovely porn sequel haha)

Plant Pathologists vs. Zombie Lawyers | by scaramouche | ♥ Sam/Castiel | ♡ Dean Good! | PG-13 | 7,000~

Porn Coda | by scaramouche | ♥ Sam/Castiel | ♡ No Dean | NC-17 | 2,000~

So. Cute. Sassy, rom-com style. I freaking love all the little things that tie into canon, so well thought out. And, their characterisations are so good. I loved that Cas was still the same old Cas, despite being born human, because some people really are simply like that, for whatever reason. Baby you were born this way.

Please give it a go for meee *hearts everywhere*

Five Lessons Dean Tries Teaching Castiel for Winchester Family Bonding (And One Castiel Figures out on His Own) | by tuesdayfic | ♥ Dean/Cas | ♡ Sam light | R | 1,759

WHAT IF Dean never went to hell, and Castiel raised John as the Righteous Man instead~? The first fic is kinda serious, the second is fluffy, and the third (by someone else) is shippy.

Don't Hide Your Light | by laisserais | ♥ J2 (AU) | ♡ RPF | R | ~27k

Just a brief blurb about the idea behind this fic: What makes some people stay in the closet for years? Why is it some people just can't seem to hide their sexuality? Where does the idea of the flamboyant gay man come from, and is it something innate? Without writing "issue fic," how do you explore these questions?

It started with the idea that gender presentation and sexuality are frequently conflated in American society. There are trans, gay, questioning, straight, intersex and bisexual people (to name only a few examples), but there are also queens, daddies, bears, femmes, butches and twinks (to name only a few examples). We tend to know what these stereotypes are, but what do they mean? Why are they there?

Take those questions and add in religiously motivated laws that conspire to make gay people feel guilty about themselves, and the gender/sexuality landscape becomes an interesting, confusing mixture. I wondered what it would be like to tell the story of Jared and Jensen through the converging ideologies of shame and acceptance.

This fic is about non-normative gender performance and Jensen's perspective on it as he comes to know and admire Jared. He doesn't understand any of it either, but he would like to.

I feel guilty for posting more RPF but then again you asked me to link you to this one :3 It's very AU, and in my opinion this story would be just as good if they changed the names and just made it ofic, but that's not really the point of it, or why I love so much about this fic; if the excerpt from the authors notes there doesn't ping you then I don't know what else to say. Um, it also has bartender Misha?? Haha.

sam/dean/castiel

I love this ship so much, and I could babble about the awesomeness of the dynamic forever. Sadly, there isn't a lot of good fic out there for it. Maybe the huge split between most of the dean/cas shippers and the wincest shippers is the cause? WELL THOSE PEOPLE ARE SILLY AREN'T THEY I MEAN LOOK WHAT THEY'RE MISSING OUT ON.

So anyway, here are some of the best fic about our little interspecies blasphemous incestuous homosexual polyamourous darlings~

(ps I can't remember where that gif came from and I feel bad :C thank you to whoever made it, it is awesome)

cause i'm yours to keep if you want toCollapse )

I know I still have to archive all my current reviews and recs, but I decided to make a special post to rec this fic:

The Way Back | by rainylemons | ♥ None - Gen (if you squint, can be interpreted as pre-slash for either Wincest or Wincestiel) |  Rating: R | Word count: 35,971

Mina Rating:
4/5 mooses

Summary:
AU in which Dean gets between Lucifer and Cas, preventing Castiel’s death and eventual return to full-blooded angelhood. In the following months, a mostly human Cas gets a job at Taco Bell, Dean recovers from wounds given to him by Lucifer, and a silent, shell-shocked Sam wanders in from the cold.

My thoughts: Becomes AU from the season 5 finale; when I read that Castiel worked at Taco Bell, I thought for sure this story was going to be crack, but it ended up surprising me with its depth! This is a gen-fic, so there are no pairings, but if you want to interpret it as pre-slash, then it's compliant. The story is told from Castiel's perspective, and his emotions are really well observed and written. The relationship he has with the brothers Winchester is wonderful. This has a lot of h/c with Sam, but it's done right, and I could feel Dean's love for Sam in every scene. It's dramatic, sweet, and heartbreaking, but also funny, hopeful, and is ultimately a story about how deep love for your family, biological or self-made, can run.

Messages to Sam:
This story is unabashedly American, aha! I was hit with such nostalgia, and I was so hungry for Taco Bell, you have no idea. I couldn't help but think about you as I read it, though, like, would she get these references? /castiels. It's full of American stores, brands, foods, etc., but I think you'll be all right! If you have any questions, just let me know 8D

In order, these are my top 6 recs for Dean/Castiel fics. All of these stories are either Sam-important or, at the very least, Sam is absent/plays a small role in a way that is not contrived or uncharacterisitc.

I've read plenty of Dean/Cas fics, and some of them are very good. They will be reviewed separately. This list is my all-time fav Dean/Castiel fics, which deserve special mentions. (As it happens, I have a favourite Dean/Castiel author who does not appear on this list; expect author recs later 8D.)

It should be noted that, except for one, all of these stories are AU.

6.Rebel Rebel | by thefarofixer (formerly rosaline_kells) | WIP | Overall rating: NC-17 | Word count: 98,467 (as of June 26th, 2011)

Summary: High School Detective Noir AU. Dean Winchester has never been a normal high school student. Helping his private detective father out with cases has given him a questionable skill set and a world-weary attitude. Everything goes from bad to worse however when his small town is rocked by murder, and the more Dean tries to find the truth, the more secrets he unearths.

My thoughts: Definitely not flawless, this story's quality would benefit from a beta reader. There are often sentences lacking needed commas, especially in dialogue. Spelling of names change (Alastair/Alistair), and sometimes letters are left out of words on accident (cane/can). Despite that, there is considerable depth in Rebel Rebel. The environment, characterisations, and atmosphere are impeccable. The murder mystery is fascinating, romance smooth and natural, and every character is utilised well; all are involved in things under the surface. The tension this story creates is palpable. Absolutely recommended! I don't normally read WIPs out of fear they won't be finished, but this is too compelling to pass up.

5. Kite Songs| by ladytelemachus | Complete | Rating: PG | Word count: 9,100

Summary:
AU. Dean is hailed as the Vonnegut of his generation; Cas is the highly-respected English professor who can't stand Dean's work and blogs about it for the world to see. Hijinks ensue. In which Cas seeks internet notoriety with his controversial views on the latest darling of American fiction, and stumbles across something else entirely.

My thoughts:
Really well-written and emotional. The way the author ended the story moved me, and led to discussions! I thought about this story in depth, and wondered at it. Sometimes a bit OOC, but is evocative and heartwrenching. I didn't think I'd like it when I first started reading it, but I'm glad I finished it! It was great!

4. Asunder| by rageprufrock | Complete | Rating: Explicit (NC-17) | Word count: 23,817

Summary: Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. (Matthew 19:6)

My thoughts:
This is an AU where Dean is a social worker who is friends with a pediatrician Castiel. Dean has to go to Sam's wedding; he's marrying Ruby, and is a former addict. Dean and Sam haven't spoken for years, and Dean, filled with guilt and obligation, asks Castiel to accompany him to the wedding so he's not alone with his family. Amaaaaaaaazing! One of the first Supernatural fanfics I've ever read, and one of the best. It is so good, I wish the author renamed the characters and published it as a novella in an anthology or something! I can say that, but no doubt about it, these characters are absolutely who they're meant to be. Great visuals, atmosphere, plot, everything!

Anddddd, the TOP 3 DEAN/CAS FICS are:
I'll Make the Most of it, I'm an Extraordinary Machine!Collapse )

bulletcourier, you recommended most of these to me to start with, so asdfghj, we definitely have similar tastes in fics! I hope that the ones here that you haven't read are to your liking 8D! Thank you~
